FAQs

Is Kinfolk Photography an inclusive business?

100% yes! We welcome any, age, race, ability, gender identity, and sexual orientation to inquire to work with us. Inclusivity is a value that both Brian and Ash share and actively uphold with Kinfolk Photography and in our personal and family lives.

How much time do I need for my wedding photography package?

How much time to choose for your wedding day really depends on what your day looks like and what is most important to you. We are always happy to chat with prospective clients to figure out what amount of time would best serve them. Although we can figure out the specifics together, a handy reference would be that anything under four hours will cover the ceremony, family photos, and photos of the married couple and bridal party. For people who are also looking for getting ready, usually this requires 4-6 hours. For a little bit of everything (getting ready, everything in between, and reception) usually we need 6-8 hours, and for a full day coverage to include more time for the morning and evening, usually we recommend 8-10 hours. Check out our blog post on wedding day coverage for more detailed information!

Can I spread out my wedding coverage throughout the day, like a split shift?

Unfortunately not. From when we come to the job until we are finished is all time that is billed for. In our experience from photographing hundreds of weddings, there is very little down time for a wedding photographer, even for very simple weddings!

Do I need a second photographer?

A second photographer is especially great for people who want coverage of both partner’s getting ready separately, as well as those who have big weddings and ceremonies where there are a lot of angles and people to cover. Both Ashley and Brian have photographed weddings of all shapes and sizes together and on our own, and we are quite comfortable either way.

How much time should I schedule for portraits during my wedding?

Generally we recommend a minimum of 1.5 hours and a maximum of 3. Basically we need 1.5 hours for photography of the wedding couple, the wedding party, and the family. Scheduling more time than 1.5 hours gives us time to travel to some great photo spots that are a little further off the beaten path.

How long do family photos take at the wedding?

We can usually get through family photos in 15-20 minutes. Sometimes it may take 30-45 if people want photos with a whole lot of different family members, friends or wedding guests. We usually recommend that family photos be done immediately after the ceremony, before people have a chance to disperse.

We don’t know where to go for photos, can you help?

Absolutely! With 20+ years of local photography experience, we always have plenty of great spots in mind

Do you take credit card?

We do not accept credit cards for session payments, as the fees charged by credit card companies are too substantial for a small-business bottom line. We do accept credit cards in our online store for the purchase of prints, albums and other products. For photo session payments, e-transfer is our preferred payment method.

What do we do if it’s raining/ smoky etc?

We are always happy to provide the option to reschedule your session one time, free of charge, provided we are available for the alternate date. However, 95% of the time we recommend going ahead with the session. In the large majority of cases, rain and smoke don’t actually prevent us from getting some great images, so bring your umbrella and let’s go exploring! There are rare cases when rain or smoke are so severe that we may suggest changing the date or time of the session. Also, check out our blog post on smoky and rainy sessions!

Would you be able to meet up to discuss everything?

We love to meet up with prospective clients to get to know each other and see if we are the right fit! Let us know when you plan to be in Jasper and we will gladly get together. If this is not possible, we are also able to set up a zoom meeting or something similar.

How can I purchase an album of my wedding or session?

Clients can design their own albums inside of their Client Gallery, using the images in the gallery. If you would prefer, we are more than happy to create a custom design for you with the images that you select in your gallery as favourites.

Do you travel?

We do travel! Because we are a family, our availability to travel is very much dependant on our schedule. Let us know what you have in mind and we can let you know if we are available. The cost is simply the cost of our services plus the cost of our travel.

How long until we will receive our images?

Wait times on images vary depending on how busy we are, what time of year it is, and what is going on with our family at that time (our family is always our first priority!) That is why we give a standard wait time expectation of one month for portrait sessions and three months for weddings. Oftentimes the reality is more like two weeks and one month, respectively, but this can be quite variable. We are happy to provide preview images for clients who can expect a longer wait time.

Why does price vary so significantly between wedding photographers?

Great question! Check out our blog on Wedding Photography Pricing for more information on our perspective.
